I spent most of my legal career helping the victims of cannabis prohibition including winning a number of seminal decisions on medical cannabis access. In addition to helping win medical patients the right to grow their own cannabis (in Allard v Canada) and the right to legally possess cannabis derivatives (in R v Smith), I helped hundreds of growers and budtenders avoid criminal records for growing and selling cannabis. I also did my best to help legalize cannabis in Canada, testifying before various Parliamentary committees, writing, speaking and educating policy makers and the public about the harms of cannabis prohibition and the benefits of a legal, regulated market.
Once Canada legalized in 2018, I semi-retired from law to pursue new entrepreneurial challenges, launching a cannabis company with my good friend Mat Beren. Our company, Great Gardener Farms, is a licensed micro-cultivator. We breed and produce award winning genetics and have won more than 60 international awards on four continents. We also conduct research into cannabis pursuant to an organoleptic research license, which is basically just a fancy way of saying we smoke, dab and vape it. We currently have seeds, flower, rosin and live rosin vape carts in market under the GGF brand.
